Covering an area of almost 6 square miles, Eatontown has an estimated population of just over 12,000 residents. Named after Thomas Eaton, who built a mill in town in 1670, Eatontown was incorporated as a township in 1873, taking portions of Shrewsbury and Ocean Townships, and became a borough in 1926. Fort Monmouth was a major presence in the borough until it’s closure in 2011. It’s interesting to note that Fort Monmouth was created by taking the land on which the original Monmouth Park Racetrack once stood.
The housing in Eatontown is primarily single family, but there are a number of condominium communities, two co-ops and one age restricted condominium community.
