Long Branch is a vibrant seaside city in eastern Monmouth County, spanning approximately 6.3 square miles with a population of around 30,600. Known for its beaches, boardwalk, and coastal lifestyle, Long Branch offers a diverse real estate market with options ranging from oceanfront condos and townhomes to charming single-family homes. Originally part of Ocean Township, it became the Long Branch Commission in 1867 and was incorporated as a city in 1903. The city includes several distinct neighborhoods, such as Elberon, West End, Beachfront North, Uptown, Downtown, Branchport, and the North End—once called Atlanticville. Long Branch is bordered by Deal to the south, Ocean Township and West Long Branch to the west, and Oceanport and Monmouth Beach to the north. The city’s name is believed to reference its location along a branch of the Shrewsbury River.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Long Branch gained national recognition as one of America's first seaside resorts. It became a popular destination for entertainers and dignitaries, including seven U.S. Presidents—from Ulysses S. Grant to Woodrow Wilson—who vacationed along its scenic beachfront. Following an assassination attempt, President James Garfield was brought to the Elberon section of Long Branch in hopes that the ocean air would aid his recovery. Although he ultimately passed away there, the home where he died still stands today as a historic landmark. While Long Branch’s prominence as a resort town declined after World War II, its rich history remains a defining part of the city’s identity.
Long Branch offers a wide variety of housing options to suit every budget and lifestyle, including single-family homes, townhouses, high-rise condominiums, multi-family residences, and beachfront estates in the historic Elberon section. The city also features one age-restricted active adult community. As one of the earliest developed areas in Monmouth County, much of Long Branch's housing stock is older than that of neighboring towns, adding to its unique charm and character. Many of the condos and townhomes are located along the beachfront and are especially popular among seasonal residents seeking coastal living with ocean views.
